Earlier this year, David Fewsdale - an iconic Kentish landlord - and I in blissful ignorance - took on a flagging pub, for reasons that remain largely unclear to us both.
The public house: The Peacock, a 14th-century free house at Iden Green, Goudhurst, with a rolling green field next door, a view, and no good reason not to throw a festival.
The inaugural Glassenbury Beer & Music Festival runs Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August, noon till 11pm both days, in the field behind the pub. Thirty-plus beers and ciders from Kent and beyond - including Tonbridge Brewery's fully gluten-free range - plus a gin bar, live music, and multiple food vendors across both days.
On the music side, I've currently got four original members of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra lined up, but I'm super keen to get some OTs or current Ts involved where possible. More generally, if you're an OT in the area, or fancy a weekend in the Weald, come and find me at the bar. And if you're in the trade: brewing, distilling, music, food, or anything festival-adjacent, and want to be part of the first one, just shout.
We are also still looking for someone to take on the kitchen so any chefs out there just shout!
