We believe in the power of education to transform lives. Tonbridge School was founded by Sir Andrew Judde in 1553 with the specific purpose of educating 50 poor scholars. Over time, this philanthropic ethos has evolved into a programme that provides over £2m each year in fee remission for scholarships and bursaries.
"As someone who benefitted from an assisted place, I recognise the importance of making it possible for bright boys, whatever their background our financial circumstances, to be able to come to a school like Tonbridge."
James Priory, Headmaster
Watch Eli's Story - Tonbridge has given him is space to grow, find his confidence and enjoy new experiences. None of this would have been possible without someone’s generosity opening the door to a Tonbridge education through a Foundation Award.
An important part of the work of the Tonbridge Society is to raise funds for our Foundation Awards bursary programme. This scheme exists to provide access to a Tonbridge education for boys who can clearly and substantially benefit from what the School has to offer and yet might not be able to attend without financial support.
Since its launch in 2003, the programme has expanded considerably and now supports 70 boys currently in the School on a Foundation Award. Its success continues, with 13 boys joining Tonbridge this year.
Of course, we can only do this with financial support from our parent and OT community and there is so much more we can do with your help.
If you have seen or experienced the transformative power of a Tonbridge education, help us to hold open the door to future Tonbridge boys by offering your support.
