In 2022, Paul Goldstein (HS 76-80) ran his 25th marathon in his tiger suit - on Everest. Last summer, he walked the equivalent of 25 marathons in 25 days. Hundreds of others joined him.
This year, he is walking 1,000 miles for tigers: 500 miles from Anglesey to Southend-on-Sea, which he has completed in the highest of temperatures and, followed by a short break, he will continue from Southend to Land’s End. Most days will be marathon-length, except for some of the brutally hilly sections, where the distance has been tempered a little. He starts again on 20 August.
Powell Ettinger (friend and colleague of Paul, 5 September 2025): “No one else would have done this. No one else could have done this!”
Bengal tigers are endangered. The storyline is that their numbers are increasing, if we are to believe the census… Yet illegal poaching, human-wildlife conflict, and habitat loss continue to leave indelible scars on their population. However, it is the insidious evil of traditional Chinese medicine that has the most devastating impact on their future. Almost every part of a tiger’s anatomy is harvested for use in this despicable trade.
Like last year, this challenge will touch many people. Put simply… it matters.
Tigers cannot flourish without protection and education. 2 Legs for 4 1000 is proudly raising funds for two vital projects:
Lighting Up Time, Bandhavgarh, India
Monitoring Mountain Mammalian Diversity, Bhutan
To join a walk, simply register via his website here. There’s no charge to take part, although a donation to the cause would be very welcome.
Chris Packham: “During the course of his marathon-running life, Paul has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for tiger conservation.”
