Almost six years to the week when the School closed its doors for lockdown due to the pandemic, we were delighted to welcome back around 80 guests to celebrate the 2020 Leavers' Five-Year Reunion. The 2020 leavers missed out on so much in their leaving year so we wanted to make this event a litte more special.
Following a 2-0 victory for the OTs in the Arthur Dunn Semi-Final against Old Bradfieldians, played at home in glorious sunshine, Old Tonbridgians were in good spirits as they joined us in Old Big School. Two of our guests, Harry Balcombe (Captain) and Tom Tribe had played for the OTs.
The evening began with delicious beers from Jim (MH 80-86) and Anja Nolan's excellent Hairy Dog Brewery, giving OTs a chance to catch up with each other, Headmaster James Priory, their housemasters and matrons.
We were very pleased to welcome back Chris Henshall and Liz Hamilton. They joined John Bleakley, Colin Swainson, James Fisher, Will Biddle, Toby Sampson, Christopher Thompson, Richard Evans, Chris Eades, Graham Barnes, Clair Miller, Anna Hughes and Nicky Pye-Finch. Adrian Ballard and Tara Biddle were there from the Tonbridge Society.
James Priory delivered a witty and informative speech, reminiscing about his day as a new headmaster shadowing George Priestly (PS), and talking about the School's new initiative 'Think 25', which offers support to OTs beyond university and at the beginning of their career journey. An initiative that also welcomes support from young OTs to share their experience and knowledge with other young OTs.
Our guests then enjoyed a tasty chilli and brownies, before gathering around the large television to watch France vs England in the exciting last round of the Six Nations Rugby. The evening ended with many OTs adjourning to Weatherspoons to finish off their conversations and enjoy a final pint!
Reports are that everyone enjoyed the evening and being back at the School.
