We would like to congratulate OT Anthony Osmond-Evans (SC 56-61) who has recently been appointed Special Advisor to the International Emergency Management Organisation (IEMO) an Intergovernmental Organisation, that collects works on global emergency prevention, preparedness, mitigation, and recovery for both natural and manmade disasters. IEMO (founded in 2006) is an IGO in the UN universe.
At a ceremony in St Mark’s Square, in Venice, Honorary Col. Philip Bonn (Special Envoy of IEMO, and a cousin of Her Majesty Queen Camilla; through his great grandmother, Lady Theodora Keppel, of Hampton Court Palace) received the official diploma on behalf of Anthony. In the citation, after receiving the award by proxy, Special Envoy Bonn said ‘Mr Anthony Osmond-Evans is cited for these honours, as a British subject, and as a published author, and as a humanitarian, who has travelled the globe during six decades and more’.
From an early age as a Tonbridge School boy in Kent, he was caring for the lot and welfare of those less fortunate than himself. He arranged and participated in sports events with various schools in poor neighbourhoods in London, taking an active part in this outreach project.
He has visited and photographed Mother Teresa in Calcutta and made a substantial donation to the poor and sick there, helping those in India. He’s photographed and published works which chart and photograph the United Kingdom and various countries in Asia, supporting education and cultural matters.
Citing cultural themes, we have shared a relationship with the Sovereign Princes of the Principality of Monaco, myself with Prince Rainier; whilst Mr Osmond-Evans is a friend of Prince Albert’s and he also wrote a famous illustrated volume on Monaco.
Mr Osmond-Evans has been, by invitation, a member of the Explorers Club in New York for over 30 years. Today, the Club’s honorary President is Mr Jeff Bezos, and Mr Anthony Osmond-Evans remains a valued member of the Club.
Other recognitions of Mr Osmond-Evans’s honour, came from the Secretary-General of the Collaborative Intergovernmental Scientific Research Institute; and from the President of IEMO, via a personal telephone call, made from Italy. Also, compliments were sent by Dr Shaun Fitzgerald, Director of the Centre for Climate Repair at the University of Cambridge.
Anthony’s award was also mentioned during a television interview, held outside the entrance to the COP30 conference in Brazil.
