Household Cavalry Museum Private Tour
Wednesday 16 September 2026
Horse Guards, Whitehall, London. SW1A 2AX
3.15pm to 4.15pm
The Household Cavalry Museum showcases and educates on the near 400 year tradition of service that the regiments of the Household Cavalry have provided since their founding in 1660 to the present day, both as bodyguards to the British monarchy and frontline soldiers of the British Army. From the battlefields of Europe to the heart of London’s ceremonial life, the regiments that make up today’s Household Cavalry have played a continuous and evolving role since the 17th century.
This unique tour through the Museum, lasting just under an hour will take guests through the Museum's galleries, highlighting the Household Cavalry's ceremonial role in London, accompanying the monarch at state functions and duties, and their military role on battlefields around the globe throughout history.
An expert guide will take us through the Museum, explaining the significance of the collection's array of artefacts, as well as expanding on the stories of soldiers, both historical and present day, who served with distinction. We will get a unique behind the scenes look at the inner workings of a British Army regiment through the viewing window into the Household Cavalry's stables, where they can see troopers hard at work with the magnificent black horses they ride on ceremonial guard duty. The tour concludes with visitors getting to watch the final inspection of the Household Cavalry. Informally known as the Punishment Parade, it is a tradition of the Household Cavalry dating back to 1894, when Queen Victoria, furious to have found her personal guard shirking their duties, commanded a daily inspection every day at 4pm. A unique part of London tradition and history that is not to be missed, it is the perfect conclusion to showcase the tradition and discipline that are hallmarks of the Household Cavalry.
