Zack Clemitson (CH 2016-21)
After A levels in History, Spanish, Latin and Maths, Zack studied History at Durham. During his second year he attended a commercial law presentation and began applying to law firms. With every application rejected, he improved his CV by completing two, fortnight-long vacation schemes at US law firms and following one of these was offered a graduate role and signed a training contract with Wilkie, Farr & Gallagher LLP. The firm have paid for his law conversion course, and he is currently preparing for his SQE solicitor’s exams. Zack joins Wilkie, Farr & Gallagher in 2026 and hopes to qualify in 2028.
Zack will talk about how he decided on law for a career, the process of applying and what it takes to be successful in this.
Anna Mills Partner and Global Co-Chair, International Arbitration, DLA Piper
Anna is Global Co-Chair of DLA Piper's International Arbitration practice and has focused on construction and engineering disputes for over 20 years. Anna acts for a wide range of domestic and international clients across a number of different industry sectors including renewables (particularly wind), conventional power, infrastructure, oil and gas, transport and manufacturing. Anna advises clients on large, complex, high value, multi-party disputes which are frequently international.
Anna's extensive experience covers a variety of different dispute forums including international arbitration (both ad hoc and under institutional rules), litigation (TCC, Commercial Court and QBD), adjudication, expert determination, mediation and all other forms of ADR. Anna also provides strategic 'live project' and dispute avoidance advice.
Anna is also an active member of the firm's pro bono team focusing on large scale or complex litigation.
Anna will tell us about her route to her current role and the skill set needed to be successful. She’ll also give tips to those who are keen to explore law as a career and consider future roles in the sector for graduates.
Manoj Sachdeva (FH & WW 1982-87)
In an extensive career Manoj has worked in human rights, criminal and administrative law for over 24 years. He served with the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina as a human rights lawyer between 1998-2000, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia as a legal office/trial lawyer from 2000-2008 and the ICC as a trial lawyer from 2008-2022 where he was co-lead counsel for the first case tried at the ICC.
He is currently a judge at the European Patent Office and will be joining us from The Hague to talk about his life in the law.
