Wren Churches in the City of London: A tour
Monday 13th September, 11.00am to 1.30pm
On 27th August 1666, a Commission met to consider what to do about St Paul’s, crumbling after years of misuse by Cromwell’s troops. They parted, still unsure...six days later the Great Fire decided for them, destroying the cathedral and 86 parish churches. The young Christopher Wren was appointed Surveyor General overseeing the rebuilding of the City Churches.
This walk will tell the story of eight of these Churches, ranging from St Paul’s to St Stephen Walbrook, described as having the ‘most perfectly proportioned interior in the world.’
Places: 15
Cost: £11.00
