Do you wonder whether you are walking or standing correctly? Do you suffer with sore shoulders, hips or lower back? Would you like to improve your walking or running style? Are you concerned about new aches and pains that may have arisen during Covid?
Katy Appleford is a fully accredited Body Control Pilates instructor and movement therapist, specialising in postural analysis and injury prevention. This 2 hour long workshop will be held in her ‘Personalised Pilates’ studio in Underriver, nr Sevenoaks.
No previous Pilates experience is necessary but as a fitness gauge, attendees need to be able to walk 2 miles. Prior to the session you will be asked to complete a health form.
The workshop will focus on:
Fascia is a thin connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fibre and muscle in the body. Healthy fascia twists and glides, whilst inflamed fascia will tighten to restrict movement and cause pain. The importance of training our most prolific biological fabric to prevent, and recover from injury, is essential.
Posture and Gait:
As a movement therapist specialising in gait analysis I will assess your movements and provide feedback and exercises that you can take away and apply in everyday life.
It is extremely beneficial for the bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons to maintain certain positions for longer. We can improve stability of all body tissue using isomeric holds.
It is a misconception that all muscles that feel stiff are short. I will assess whether your muscles are short and tight or long and weak. Both can feel stiff. We need long strong muscles for healthy movement patterns.
We will have time to relax and focus on breath as a vital component of the ‘core’. Correct breathing naturally improves our posture, reduces inflammation and detoxifies the lymphatic system. Breath control will significantly reduce stress and tension.
