Art Deco
A presentation by Ian Gledhill
for the Tennant Lecture Series
Thursday 3 October 2024
Lecture in Big School at 8pm
Drinks in the Lowry Dining Room from 7.15pm
Ian Gledhill began his career as an engineer, but he now has over 20 years of experience giving talks on a wide range of subjects, including Art Deco. The movement first appeared in Paris at the start of the 20th Century and flourished in the United States and Europe during the 1920s and 30s. It was the brilliant and colourful style of the jazz age, which swept the world. Art Deco has influenced bridges, skyscrapers, cinemas, ocean liners and everyday objects such as radios and vacuum cleaners. It represented luxury, glamour and exuberance. Ian Gledhill will tell us how all this happened and examine the influence which Art Deco continues to have to this day.
This event is fully accessible.
