A lecture by Sir Anthony Seldon OT for the Tennant Lecture Series
on ex PM Boris Johnson
Thursday 29 September 2022 at 8.00pm
Drinks served in the Lowry Room from 7.30 pm
Lecture in EM Forster Theatre at 8.00 pm
Boris Johnson is an enigma amongst British prime ministers. Martin Hammond, former head of Tonbridge and his Housemaster at Eton wrote: ‘Boris seems affronted when criticised for what amounts to a gross failure of responsibility and surprised at the same time that he was not appointed Captain of School’. Has Boris been lucky or clever? Does he know what he is doing, or do things just happen under him? Has he remade or undone Britain? Has he dragged down the British constitution and standards, or is he a scapegoat? Sir Anthony Seldon OT, Boris Johnson’s biographer, will examine these questions and discuss what the Johnson legacy might be. Sir Anthony is the author of more than 45 books on contemporary history, politics and education. He is a Governor of the Royal Shakespeare company and on the board of many charities and educational bodies. Regularly commenting on political developments and writing in the press, few people are better placed to tell us of the events leading up to the departure of our 55th Prime Minister.
This event is fully accessible.
