Dr Joe Whittaker Lecturer in cyber threats at Swansea University.
Joe is a lecturer in Cyber Threats at Swansea University. His PhD analysed the online behaviours of Islamic State terrorists in the US from the years 2012-2018, conducted as a joint degree with Swansea University and Leiden University. He has also researched how social media platforms’ recommendation systems promote and amplify extreme far-right content, as well as publishing on topics such as counter-narratives and extremist video games. Joe will talk about courses available throughout the UK (and Europe) and give an insight into the work of CYTEC the Cyber Threats Research Centre at Swansea University.
Joseph Wise, Community Maker Security Awareness Special Interest Group (SASIG).
The Security Awareness Special Interest Group (SASIG) addresses the human aspects of security and fraud prevention in an initiative to improve trust and confidence in the online environment and is an impartial and credible voice of the corporate sector in the cybersecurity and e-crime prevention debate. Joseph will tell us about the roles within the corporate sector for those interested in a career in cyber security. The current issues facing the sector and what he perceives as future threats.
Dan Jarvis OT (MH 1994-99) Software Engineering Manager, Meta
After leaving Tonbridge Dan went on to study Computer Science at Cambridge graduating with a BA in 1992. After seven successful years at Capital One, the final three years as Engineering Director leading several teams building authentication and identity solutions, Dan moved to work as Engineering Software Manager for Meta in the US. Dan came over to the UK last Summer and came back to look around Tonbridge School, taking time out to talk to boys about the work he does. Carrying on from that discussion, Dan will join us from the States to talk about life working for Meta and to give advice to those keen to follow in his footsteps.

Following a very different path is Ed, who describes himself as a software developer and serial entrepreneur. Ed is creator of the BrightSign Glove, the only sign language glove in the world that can translate any sign into the spoken language – instantly! Ed will tell us about his career path since leaving Tonbridge and give some invaluable advice to the budding entrepreneurs amongst us.
