The 149th OT Dinner was held in the beautiful and historic Long Room at Lord’s on Thursday 15 October, and the OT Society was delighted to welcome 180 OTs spanning seven decades. Our current Head of School, Guy (OH), had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with many OTs throughout the evening.
Guests enjoyed a glass or two of wine in the wonderful and historic MCC Museum before moving through to the Long Room. The evening began with an informative speech from Guy, who spoke about his time at Tonbridge and the changes taking place at the School. This was followed by Grace, given by James Priory.
A delicious three-course meal followed, comprising Salmon Gravadlax, Roasted Chicken Supreme, and Dark Chocolate and Passion Fruit Crèmeux, accompanied by a plentiful flow of wine.
The President of the OT Society, Jeremy Cowdrey (PH 73–78), was present, as were the OTS Committee Chairman, Richard Hough (PH 79–84), and Headmaster, James Priory.
Following toasts to King Charles III, the Pious Memory of Sir Andrew Judde and Tonbridge School, guests enjoyed speeches from Jeremy Cowdrey and James Priory.
Jeremy delivered an entertaining speech, sharing anecdotes from his time at Tonbridge and reflecting on the long-standing connection between Tonbridge and Lord’s. He spoke about the School’s matches against Clifton, which were played at Lord’s from 1914 until 1967, when the fixture was discontinued following the relaying of the pitch. He also paid special tribute to the late John Gibbs.
The evening’s speeches concluded with an amusing address from James Priory, who reflected on the School’s continuing good health and prospects for the future.
Carriages were at 10.30pm, and reports are that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
