150th Tonbridge School v MCC

Tonbridge School cricket celebrates a historic milestone

The 150th Tonbridge School v MCC cricket match, held on Tuesday 23 June, drew over 150 Old Tonbridgians back to the School for a day of sport and celebration.

Guests enjoyed a relaxed barbecue lunch and afternoon tea, providing the perfect backdrop for reconnecting with old friends while watching the match.

The MCC delivered an impressive batting performance and finished on 209 for 6. Despite a determined effort from Tonbridge in reply, the School side fell short, being bowled out for 148.

During the afternoon, guests heard an address from the Headmaster James Priory, who welcomed the OTs and reflected on the significance of this long-standing fixture and its place in the School’s sporting heritage. He was followed by Ed Smith, President of the MCC, author, journalist and former professional cricketer. Ed played first-class cricket for Cambridge University, Kent and Middlesex, and represented England in three Test matches. In his speech, he spoke about the spirit of the game and the relationship between Tonbridge and the MCC.
