| News of OTs |
Meeting every Tuesday, the Old Tonbridgians have enjoyed another busy year, with now-regular fixtures against the RFA (a narrow loss), the School (a thumping win), and the Jesters (surely a tie?). We also have had new away and home fixtures against the thriving-again Eastbourne Club, a fixture noted for both competition and conviviality (and wins). The OT’s also again happily hosted the Jesters tour of the South (thanks to the School and Henry Swales), with players from all over the country, young and old, men and women, competing in a glorious exhibition of (mostly pretty good) fives. All the OT’s played, including Messrs Tilston and Keyes, except Rod Oscroft, whose season has been hit by injury (although he is back now!). Most exciting, we have brought Jon Lidiard (former MIC of fives at Sedbergh, now teaching at Sevenoaks) back to fives-playing (and how good it is to have a left-hander in the side!). Finally and not least, we are very pleased to report that the OT’s had the most players (Harman, Mathieu & Jackson) at the National Vintage Championship, with Ian Jackson (and Nick Geere) retaining the Doubles Plate. Separately, Neil Arnott (with Chris Horrocks) was delighted to win the Grand Masters Doubles Plate. OT Fives at Tonbridge continues to thrive, and the OT’s are similarly working hard with the School to keep the boys’ interest up (Guy Harman, Rupert Mathieu and Neil Arnott coaching several sessions in the Lent Term).
For the benefit of any OT's, parents, and other local fives players, we remain open to new members, who are most welcome to join us at our Tuesday evening games at the school, starting at 20.00. We come changed and ready to play and only have access to changing, etc on fixture nights.
Thank you also to all our members for the energy and enthusiasm they bring to share the joy of both Winchester and Rugby Fives
