Giving back

The  2022 telethon will take place from 19 November - 4 December.

Our callers gain a huge amount from the advice, stories and life experience from the members within our community that they talk with and we are immeasurably grateful to everyone who is willing to receive a call. You can meet the student calling team below. We hope their call is as enjoyable for you as it is for them and that you will appreciate the chance to find out about School news whilst potentially choosing to support the Foundation Award bursary programme.

Find out about the campaign here, or contact Yvette Young, Development Manager if you have any questions.

What did you like most about Tonbridge School? I enjoyed not only the high academic standard and care of Tonbridge, but also the extra-curricular opportunities the school provided, which in turn created an extremely well rounded educational experience. The student community that existed at Tonbridge was fantastic as well, as it fostered a positive and enjoyable atmosphere.

What do you hope to do in the future? I am pursuing an army career; following this, I am also entertaining the idea of entering the wealth management industry.

What do you enjoy in your spare time? I weight-train, fence and also enjoy reading books; on top of this, I like to hike and mountain climb.

MAX (HS 16- 21)
Studying at the University of Bristol

I completed my A level studies last summer in Politics, English and Religious Studies. In my gap year, I worked at my prep school, Arnold House, for a term as a PE teacher and also as a part time tennis coach. I then did a ski season in Verbier where I attained my BASI level 1 and 2 instructor qualifications. Finally, I spent two months backpacking in South America travelling through Brazil, Bolivia and Peru.

What did you like most about Tonbridge School? I loved many things about Tonbridge but I feel living in the boarding house was the thing now that I valued the most. You build a brotherhood with boys from all years and the house very much feels like a family. The grounds were also amazing and being able to play sport in these facilities was an incredible privilege.

What do you hope to do in the future? In university holidays I would love to use my ski instructor qualification at some point. As a career, I’m considering working in M&A .

What do you enjoy in your spare time? I love being active and playing tennis. I also enjoy reading and watching movies.

Favourite Book: The Climb - Anatoli Boukreev and Bounce - Matthew Syed

ED (CH 14-19)
Graduated 2022 having read Sociology and Politics at Newcastle University.

What did you like most about Tonbridge School? The facilities at Tonbridge School meant I was able to discover and focus on two of my main passions, art and swimming. The Art block at Tonbridge was incredible, along with the extremely supportive and friendly staff. Spending time there working on my prints was a key part of my time at Tonbridge.

The sports facilities also allowed me to focus on my swimming, eventually becoming the swim captain in Upper Sixth. This allowed me to build on my skills not only in the sport but leadership qualities.

What do you hope to do in the future? My dream career would involve a lead curatorial role at an art gallery or museum such as the Tate, Victoria and Albert Museum, or galleries abroad providing the opportunity to travel such as the Museé d’Orsay. Being able to work amongst some of the most valuable pieces would be a pleasure.

What do you do in your spare time? I enjoy keeping active whether this be going on a long run or going for a swim. I am currently trying to build up the confidence to go open water swimming, but I just need to get over the idea of the cold!  I also love to keep working on my prints developing new pieces as often as possible in hope to create a portfolio. Spending time with my friends made at university, and keeping in contact with people from Tonbridge is also incredibly important to me.

Favourite Book:Frankenstein by Mary Shelley is one of my favourite books. The idea of nature vs nurture interests me greatly!
Favourite Film: Interstellar by Christopher Nolan is up there. The visuals and sound track by Hans Zimmer is amazing.
