The restored Chapel of St Augustine was dedicated by the Bishop of Rochester on 20th October 1995 before a congregation of 870, in a Service of Dedication which marked the culmination of several years’ planning and construction: the restoration of Tonbridge School Chapel was one of the largest ecclesiastical building projects undertaken in this country in recent decades. Since then many have had the opportunity, either as visitors or by attending services or concerts, to experience the dignity of the building and the quality of its music, which we intend to be of cathedral standard. The Chapel is open to the public at all times during term, and members of the public are welcome to attend any school services.
In common with many cathedrals, collegiate chapels, and other large churches, we have founded a ‘Friends’ association for those who would wish to support the maintenance and furtherance of the work of the Chapel, its worship and music.
We invite all those who wish to be associated with this great building, parents, Old Tonbridgians, members of the local community, and visitors – to join The Friends and Patrons of St Augustine’s Chapel by making an annual contribution to the cost of the maintenance of the Chapel and its life and ministry. The contributions will be largely put towards the running costs of the Chapel and the Choir; but we shall also build up a capital fund for the continuing development of the Chapel.
The Chapel is administered under a separate charity, the St Augustine’s Chapel Charity, whose trustees include the Headmaster, and the Chaplain. Gift Aid contributions to the Charity are administered by the Charities Aid Foundation.
You are invited to join the association by emailing Yvette Young and by making a donation via the link to the Chapel's Charities Aid Foundation website here
Friends and Patrons receive a termly diary of the services in Chapel. Also, they are invited to attend, with family and friends, termly Choral Evensongs and receptions beforehand, the Remembrance Service; as well as the Carol Service for Parents & Friends after which refreshments will be served.
