Hawk Safari: A Goshawk Quest - The Holy Grail of Hawks
A Guided Walk Experience with Bird Expert Tom Forward
Tuesday 3 March 2026
Ashdown Forest, Danehill, East Sussex. RH18 5JN
10.00am to 12.30pm
Join us on this late winter walk with a difference - a unique bird-watching Hawk Safari with expert guide,Tom Forward.
Pull on your wellies, wrap up warm and head out in search of an apex predator that calls the Ashdown Forest home. Goshawks, normally shy woodland raptors, become more evident as pairs display above their territories, and the walk will take in some of the more reliable sites for observing this behaviour. This is a bird that is bouncing back from near nationwide extinction, so it's exciting to observe it finding its way back into the landscape. As we walk, we'll be looking out for the other more common bird of prey species, as well as seasonal Forest wildlife highlights.
Key information:
Dress for the weather! It can be cold and wet at this time of year, so wellies and thick socks, warm layers and waterproof clothing are essential. There will be some standing still and observing as part of the walk. Binoculars are highly recommended. You may wish to bring a flask of your preferred hot beverage for extra warmth.
Please note that there are no toilets on site.
Excellent mobility is required.
We will meet at Long U Car Park (What3Words ///optimally.apples.pretty) Parking will need to be paid for in advance unless you have an Ashdown Forest Parking Permit. You do not need to select an exact car park name.
