Ceremony of the Keys
A Private Evening Tour at The Tower of London
35 Tower Hill, London EC3N 4DR
Thursday 12 March 2026
8.30pm to 10.05pm
The Ceremony of the Keys is one of the oldest surviving traditions in England, a nightly ritual at the Tower of London where the main gates are formally locked for the evening. This remarkable ceremony has taken place without interruption for nearly 700 years, led each night by the Chief Yeoman Warder of the Tower.
Our evening will begin at 8.30pm with a private guided tour. A Yeoman Warder will accompany us on an hour-long walk around the Tower's exterior, sharing its rich history, pointing out fascinating details, and recounting the darker tales of imprisonment and beheadings that shaped its past.
The tour concludes with the Ceremony of the Keys, offering a rare opportunity to witness this historic ritual first hand. The evening ends as we are formally escorted out of the Tower (heads intact!), a truly unique experience and one not to be missed.
