London's Lost Rivers, River Westbourne and the Grosvenor Canal
Tuesday 22nd June at 11.00am
This 2nd guided walking tour with Paul Talling, author of ‘London’s Lost Rivers’, follows the route of the lower reaches of one of London's major subterranean rivers. Starting in Lancaster Gate, we will explore the alleys and mews that once lined the Westbourne River, originally known as Bayswater Brook. We will walk through Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Knightsbridge, to Sloane Square. Here the encased river crosses the tube station and down to the Thames where the sewer outfall empties beside Chelsea Bridge. We will have a brief look at the entrance of the former Grosvenor Canal and the old Chelsea Waterworks Company.
Again, Paul will regale us with tales and legend, both ancient and modern on the way! The walk will take around 3 hours and there will no longer be a scheduled stop at the pub due to the restriction announcement made on Monday 14th June.
