Alex Perry (PS 13-18):
Alex Perry gained A Levels in Biology Chemistry and Maths and is now studying medicine at Leeds University. Currently in his fourth year of medicine but his fifth year at university due to intercalating in medical education for a year. He says: My journey through the medical school process was one of a bumpy ride and I look forward to meeting you all and sharing my experiences!
Alex will talk about the application process and what university life is like and how the course is split over each year.
Charlie Pearson (WW 14-19):
Charlie left Tonbridge with A levels in Biology, Chemistry and Philosophy and Theology and is now in his 4th year at Cardiff University. He says he still has an open mind as to what he wants to peruse but psychiatry and geriatrics have so far been highlights.
Charlie will talk about his route to Cardiff and what topics he has been covering and next steps.
Daniel Lawes (Parent):
Daniel Lawes is a Consultant Laparoscopic (keyhole general surgery) and Colorectal Surgeon and has been based in the Maidstone & Tunbridge Well NHS Trust since 2007, practising at Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone and Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead. He also privately consults at the Nuffield Hospital, The Wells Suite at Pembury Hospital and the Spire Hospital Fordcombe.
Daniel will tell us about life working within a hospital setting and about the balance between NHS and private work.
Dr Nicki Perry (Parent):
Dr Perry qualifies from Bristol University in 1997 MB ChB with BSc (Hons) in Cellular and Molecular Pathology. After completing the GP VTS scheme in Tunbridge Wells, she gained diplomas in obstetrics and gynaecology, child health and geriatric medicine with MRCGP in 200. Nicki has an interest in minor surgery, acupuncture for muscular pain and teenage health. She has worked for commissioning in Kent for the CCG since 2020.
Dr Perry will talk about her decision to follow the GP route and the areas of specialism within it. It will also be interesting to hear how the current system is bearing up and her thoughts on the future of the role of GP.
