'Modern Art and the Old Masters'
A lecture by Valerie Woodgate for the Tennant Lecture Series
Wednesday 8 March 2023
Drinks in the Lowry Dining Room from 7.30pm
Lecture in Big School at 8.00 pm
Valerie Woodgate, one of our most popular and engaging speakers, will lecture on Modern Art and the Old Masters. In many ways, modern art has a surprising amount in common with the Old Masters, but there are, of course, many differences and reinterpretations of subject and style. In all genres, from the humble Still Life, to the elevated subject-matter of History Painting, or High Art, we find links between the art of the past and modern art. Comparisons between traditional and modern works of art, dealing with the same subjects, can be intriguing and instructive. Do join us for a closer look at this fascinating subject. Valerie Woodgate is a senior lecturer at both Tate Modern and Tate Britain.
This event is fully accessible.
