Traitor King - The Scandalous Exile of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor
A talk by Andrew Lownie for the Tennant Lecture Series
Tuesday 16th November at 7pm
This is an online talk
Sunday Times bestselling author Andrew Lownie will examine the years following the abdication of Edward VIII when the former king was kept in exile, feuding with his family over the status for his wife, Wallis Simpson. Drawing on extensive research and Freedom of Information requests, the lecture will make the case that the Duke and Duchess of Windsor were not naïve dupes of the Germans, but actively involved against Britain during the war. The talk, entitled Traitor King, will reveal the true story behind the German attempts to recruit the Duke, the efforts by Churchill to cover this up and the extent to which the relationship between the Duke and Wallis, was not quite the love story it is so often assumed to be. Andrew Lownie is the author of several bestselling books on recent history. He was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge, where he was President of the Union.
